This book is a must-have because it’s filled with examples, ideas, how to projects and lists of small sized plants to use. There’s a whole chapter on projects, creating tiny patios, pathways and dry creek beds.
There’s an important chapter on scale. Common scale for fairy gardens is 1 inch per foot, in other words a fairy house of 11 inches, would be in scale with a fairy that was 5 inches high. A full sized house is 11 feet high and a normal sized person is 5 feet or so. Using scale is an interesting aspect when combining many accessories, so you don’t get a huge fairy next to a tiny house!
Tip on Scale:
- Large 1 inch to 1 foot
- Medium ½ inch to 1 foot
- Small ¼ inch to 1 foot!
One heading called ‘Does it belong’ advises on editing accessories to prevent ‘too much’ going on. Another useful chapter is called Miniature Garden Maintenance where you can learn tips to preserve your tiny gardens.
